I bought a second xbox 360 to firmware mod, which I have done but...
I did not check how up to date the xbox was with standard Microsoft service packs before modding the firmware on the dvd drive.

The xbox says it needs an update in order to play newer games.

If I connect the xbox to the internet in order to download the update will my xbox get bricked?

Is there any other way to get these updates, burn it to a dvd and put this in to the xbox?

You should be ok, i done the same thing. Just make sure there isn't a copied game in the drive.
