copy of swap magic 3.8 ultimate swap set did not come with set of instructions i have been looking on the internet for hours now trying to get this thing to work and i am getting nothing. I put in the DVD one and it opens up a menu says

Load Bootdisk or insert your own program

normal special SMBOOT Cheats

so i go to normal and when it asks for video type, i pull out the try and put in my back up and close it. and i press X, and then after a dozen seconds it takes me to the PS2 menu where it shows my memory cards and says reading disk forever

I was under the impression that i should get a screen when i first load up the program that has two options, Load program or select video mode, well i'm not getting that i'm getting what i mentioned above.

The Ultimate Swap Collection DVD? I've heard of that collection having many programs with the exception of a non-working Swap Magic copy program although I could be wrong. What DVD media are you using? What game are you trying to play exactly? How big is the ISO size of the disc? Are you using the proper SM disc for the correct games? SM CD for PS2 CD-based games, and SM DVD for PS2 DVD games. Also, what program are you using to burn? DVD Decryptor, Nero, IMG Burn, Alcohol 120% or what?

Also, from the sound of this, do you have a PAL PS2 by any chance and you're trying to play an NTSC region PS2 game on it? If that's the case, one possible problem you have is that your PAL PS2 can't properly display the NTSC PS2 game correctly, and you either need to run the ISO through a NTSC to PAL converter or trying switching TVs that supports auto-resizing screen resolutions/aspect ratios.

Ok sorry let me give you some better information here

I'm using Taiyo Yuden dvds and i have several image files on my computer of ps2 games, i have used DVD Decryptor and Nero and i burn the image file right onto the DVD at 2x and never get any errors. i turn on the system, and the menu for SM 3.8 loads up, at that point i use the slide tool, hook the tray and pull it out, then i put in the game. So i put in the game and push the tray closed. Now a problem may lay here, i put the slide tool back in and i can't feel any way to lock the tray, i slide it to the left but i feel no resistance as i pull/push to the left. So i dunno if thats a big deal. anyway, i select NTSC because i have a NTSC playstation2 and TV and press X and it just gets stuck at a black screen. Most of these games are 4.2ish 4.3ish size games, but i have even burnt one that is just 1.1gig and of course doesn't work. I would try my SM CD copy but no games i have are small enough for a blank CD so thats sorta out of the question i have tried Dawn of Mana, Tales of the abyss, Shadow Hearts from the New World, La Pucille Tactics and all with the same results
Thanks a bunch

What are you using to rebuild the games? Are you simply extracting the image using DVD Decryptor and burning the game directly? Or are you extracting the files using ISO Buster, make an IML off of $ony GEN 1.5 and making the ISO using IML2ISO or something? I know for a fact you can easily shrink La Pucelle Tactics to a mere 750 megabytes using Expert's v1.05 tool. And have you tried Default? If you are trying to play an NTSC game using a NTSC PS2, and you're using a standard average American-bought TV here from the U.S., try Default for video settings.

Edit: NTSC and PAL are generally for those who are trying to play a NTSC PS2 game using a PAL PS2 or vice versa and remedies SOME PS2 screen resolution problems but not all.

I dont think i need to "rebuild" games, these are downloaded from a reliable source and as an example the God of War II game i am trying has files like .IRX and .TOC that leads me to believe that they are ready to burn, as they are in an image file, that i can open with PowerISO and burn with DVD Decrypter, is there anyway of telling if i have a bad copy of swap magic, or is there something on my console settings i need to change perhaps

this is the same exact thing that happens to me although I'm using the Swap Magic 3.8 Elf. I load the game correctly, (i know how to load games..), but I get either a blank screen or I am taken to the screen where it shows my memory card and it says "reading disc" and after a few seconds I see the pink screen of death aka "please insert a PS2 format disc".. I use Taiyo Yudens and burn at 4x and all my games work perfectly with my SM 2.0 DVD but they don't even load with the SM 3.8 Elf file.

I'm having the same problem (e.g. the "pink screen of death", using version 3.8) but I'm using an NTSC PS2 import game. Any help would be lovely. I've waited patiently to receive my game and now I can't even play it!

Edit: I've tried both the CD and DVD versions of the loading disc and hitting "default" and "NTSC", but the problem still occurs. I've checked, and the import game is NTSC, and so is my PS2. I've sent off an email to SM.com, but hopefully I'll get a response from this forum before then.

Edit 2: I was able to load my disc using the "Special" load and directly choosing the NTSC format. Why that works, I have no idea.
