I understand that some games from other regions will work on my 360, however, will games from europe display in 60Hz and NTSC color (according to the system) or 50Hz and PAL color?

probably depends on the region lock. if it is locked then yes, if not the probably no.

OK now i've got another question. Has anyone ever tried playing a 360 game from another region on their TV? I know that some games like Gears of War are completely region free, but when i looked at the back of the box it said it is only for use with PAL systems. Has anyone ever tried playing a game from another region and it worked?

I just wanna be sure I won't make a false buy.

i honestly never have, i am pretty sure if it is not correct to that region it will not even boot in the console. not 100% but 90% sure. just be safe and buy the correct region, you don't wanna be disappointed.
