Adapter Won't Go In All The Way

When I try to insert the power adapter into the DC IN jack, it doesn't go in all the way. I know it's not the adapter because my friend's doesn't go in either. How can I fix this problem? Should I try making the metal thing inside smaller?

I also forgot to mention that it won't charge, because it's not in far enough.
