Never seemed to have this problem up until I brought this brand new 20x HP 1040e external burner.
It worked the first night I bought it. Burned using DVDShrink beautifully
Now Ive been getting this error on almost every dvd I use with Shrink.

try the speed thing first, then maybe uninstall this roxio driver as it might be conflicting with Nero, heres a clean tool for that
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
edit
Nero API version: 7.5.13.1
you could also try upgrading Nero too

I figured Id have the newest version, because I JUST got this HP DVD burner like a week ago and it came with a bundled Nero 7 package, but guess I was mistaken. lol

One question...
I seem to never understand why its like this, but.....
How come on a burner, it will say 20x, or 18x, but yet when you ACTUALLY use the burner to burn or copy music or what not, that everyone always tells you to set it to a very slow speed?
*shrugs*

Well I used that Roxio Zap tool and used it.
Restarted
Burnt at 8x, and this time no error, BUT it burnt only half the movie on the DVD-R. Only half of the DVD-R was shaded, so something is still messed up.
Im trying now between 4x - 6x but I shouldnt even have to go this slow in speed. Especially when I havent had any problems with my past burners for over a year.

Well even 4x isnt working.
The DVD-R looks like shaded lines going only shading HALF of the DVD-R. Theres still no error, but its only burning up to chapter 1, then it cuts off.
What could be causing this?? I uninstalled Nero 7, DVDFab which I use to unlock prot codes, and DVDShrink and reinstalled everything hoping this would fix it, but its still the same.
I just cant think of what may have caused this to start happening.

is the Nero you are using an OEM version?
i ask this because you might not be able to upgrade to a full version, with the serial number you have if it is a lite version.
you could try upgrading Nero
heres the newest one nero 7.9.6.0
on the other hand you can try IMGburn(free) to see if Nero is the problem.

I think the Nero version I had before WAS an OEM Nero Burning Rom 5 which seemed to work great.
But the Nero package that came with this new HP burner I bought is called Nero 7 Essentials. Doesnt say OEM on it.
..and the only other reason for me not to upgrade Nero, is Id have to turn right around and BUY the upgrade which I dont even know if it would fix the problem. I think it might be the version. Idk. See another thing is does DVDShrink burn well with this Imgburn program you mention??

I have so many Nero cd versions from past burners Ive used.
I have Nero Burning Rom V5 (no oem on the cd)
I have Nero Express (which I dont think has DVD burning tools)
Then I have a cd that JUST says Nero on it with OEM Suite at the bottom
Then I have Nero 2.6 or somethin like that Suite which is an OLD cd
Then I have Nero 7 Essentials which came with my new burner
But again, I think it was Nero Burning Rom V5 which I used in the past which seemed to work fine, but until my last burner was pausing the movie around chapter 10 on every dvd Id burn. I changed the speed and same thing. On Chapter 10 it would freeze the movie a lot. So being that I had the burner for 2 years, I bought a new HP burner and it worked fine WITH the same Burning Rom Nero version I had on the computer, but noticed that even my NEW burner wasnt burning the whole movie. It was freezing either around chapter 10 or at the end of the movie as well.
Of course I was burning at maximum speed or above 16x, so maybe that was the problem. Idk

Nero 7 essentials is not the full(ultra) version of Nero, so i think the upgrade will not work with the serial number you have with that version
dvd shrink has nothing to do with the burning part of the dvd, if you do auto burn with shrink all shrink does is start the process, and it does not effect the burning program at all.
Yes IMGburn is one of the best burning programs out there, and it can burn Video_ts folders if you, i think you should try IMGburn to see if that version of Nero is your problem
Quote:

there are a lot of reasons why this could be happening here are a couple
1.it could be that your new burner doesn't like the sony media you are using, you can try different media like Verbatims, or Taiyo Yudens
2.burning to fast
3.your drive may need a firmware update (i looked and couldn't find one for your burner, so your probably have the newest)
let us know what happens after you try IMGburn, and use the guide i posted above if you have a folders and not ISO's

Ok, I came to the conclusion that I think its the media.
BECAUSE, I tried IMGBurn and it still was messed up when I went to use my new HP Burner with the Sony media I had. If you look at the cd afterwards, it stops the shade at 40% and then you see light swirls on the outer rim of the shade, like the burner slowly gave up burning the image to the DVD-R.
SO, I uninstalled IMGBurn and reinstalled Nero. I placed the Sony media into my old burner, and used my NEW burner to read the original DVD to make the process go faster and then I lowered the burn speed to 4x.
Works fine so far and the whole movie burn'd on the DVD-R. So apparently HP has these new burners out that apparently dont like the Sony media's.
I have a feeling HP's burners only really work with their own media, forcing you to buy their product.
Ive tried looking into stores for these Verbatims, or Taiyo Yudens media, but down here in Texas, they dont seem to sell those brands in stores.
Only brands Ive noticed in computer stores are Sony, HP, Maxell, Imation, and GQ brands.
