My psp is vs 3.11 and i would like to downgrade it to 2.71, (i have a shop that puts them on a memory stick cheap for 2.71) i have seen alot of stuff about Dark_Alex custom firmware but i dont acually know what it is and what it does. Could some one explain it to me

You don't need to downgrade to 2.71, you need to donwgrade to 1.5. Then upgrade to 3.40OE. Refer to 3.50 downgrader threads floating around.

#2: 1.00 -> 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c
#3: Ceramic white 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c -> 3.40oe

i have a place that will get me games for 2.71. but i would like to know is what dark alex custom firmware is.

basically they are unlocking the full potential of ur psp, allowing you to run many homebrew applications, emulators, iso's and change ur psp's xmb appearence.
