I was wondering if anyone has put a Wiikey in a Japanese Wii? I've got a brand new Wii brought in Tokyo on Jul 01 and I'm not sure if the Wiikey will work? Does anybody know? Also the system language is Japanese only which makes it even more tricky, can it be changed to english? Sorry for beginner questions but if I did install a Wiikey would that mean I would be able to play US Wii games on my Japanese Wii? Maybe I'm better off taking it back and getting a US version and using that in Japan.

thx

I put one in, and had no problem. Because it's a new one you bought, it could be an "unmodable" version, with the 3 legs cut off. It's not unmodable, but really difficult to do.
Yes, everything's in Japanese, and you can't change it to English. You will be able to play US games if you install the wiikey

If you got a D2B chipset then the Wii can be modded. Even if the legs have been cut off the chip. You just have to do some modification to the chip to solder to the cut legs on the chipset.

There have been reports of a new D2C chipset that is unmodable.

You can play some US games and European games on your NTSC(J) Wii. The game has to be region compatible in order for this to work. You can visit the site below and look up what games are region compatible and which ones are not. Since you have an NTSC(J) Wii you will look under the sections of...

NTSC(U) TO NTSC(J)

Or

PAL TO NTSC(J)

If you play out of region game disc on your NTSC(J) System then you need to take a look at this guide below to protect yourself from a region brick...

Great thanks for info... One question, if I can just use WiigionFree why would I install a Wiikey? (If all I want to do is be able to play US games on my Japanese Wii that is) Also, have I got this right: Make an ISO of a US game, patch it with WiigionFree, burn patched file, put in Wii? Or download a US games via torrent, patch it, burn it, play it in Wii? Is this possible or does this require a modchip?

thx
