thats not it right? there wouldn't be this much hype over it if that was it. It has something to do with playing backups right?

Nope,wrong.You can not play PS3 game backups yet...

For me, it's the push to use emulators on it, personally. soon as i see a solid SNES, MAME etc emu's running on it, plus the rumors of older PC games (SCUMM engine'd really do it for me!), im sold, ill back it all up & just get formatting...prolly need a bigger drive first tho.
