Windows XP backup utility help?

Hi,
Trying to decide to use windows backup utility or get Norton Backup & restore. Does the windows backup utility work well enough?
How do you set it to do regular backups? Do I need to set it to incremental backup option? Not sure if this is how to do it. I read the Windows web site article on this but still not clear to me as I tried it and it did not work right. Basically I want to schedule a backup that will backup any new files/data since the last backup and not overwrite everything all over again. Can anyone advise me on the proper settings to do this? thanks!
