do i need to buy the xbox 360 hd player to watch films on? I down loaded a couple of hd size films but only come up as media discs when i put in xbox.

You need the HD-DVD add on to watch HD-DVD.
Any HD-DVD films you download need to be burnt on a HD-DVD disc, am not sure if they are even available yet.
Your PC,s burner and some internals must have the ability to read these discs and also burn them.
Or you could rip the main movie from the disc and convert to a compatible format.
