i have trouble cleaning my cds.nothing ive tried so far seems to help.ive tried soap and water,store bought cleaning supplies,rubbing alchol,but none of them hardly ever work,does anyone know of anything i could try to help me with this matter?thanks

Rubbin' alcohol and a q-tip works for me. When you say cd's, er, dvd, music cd (original), pc (original), cd-r(w)?

Do you own more than 1 drive? (DVD\CD-ROM& DVD\CD-Burner)? If so you still encounter problems in both?

If your trying to clean CD-ROM's you can use a small amount of washing up liquid on the read surface, wipe it over the disc evenly then rinse with clear water, do NOT get the reverse side wet. Rest the CD on a tissue to dry. Im not sure if this works with writable media but i will try it out ;-)

Water is plenty fine even if you get it all over the CD just make sure when you pop the disc in the drive it isnt still wet!

still no luck,they may be scratched along with being dirty.,because they should be clean,i dont think its my cd-rom drive,because most cds play ok on it,but there are more of them starting to get that way

Some drives are pickier than others... try a DVD drive... they typically are more lenient... also, is this an RW or CDR? (typically RWs are more lenient)

Try using dental past or crystal cleaner.
Put the cd in an horizontal surface and rub the product in the same direction (alwais).
The cd will looks scratch but doesn´t matter.
I hope you find the solution to your problem.

mmhh, turn on light, hold cd under light and look at the surface of the cd, does it look dirty, specs of dirt etc...?
if so;
Use soft cloth to wipe from center to edge to remove dirt.
Use IPA and cotton bud (lightly) and rub with cloth afterwards if necessary.
Do not try cleaning top of cd, side with picture or writing as this is the important side and should not be damaged or messed with.
If the cd will not work in the drive on PC, will it work in music center?
Is the top of the cd scratched? if so you can try a reflective pen/marker on originals or pray if they are cd-r

so far,ive had the most success with dental paste,that has helped some,all of them are cd-r,that may be the main reason for this problem,i didnt know that cd-rs were so much more delicate than cd-rw

Some thougts:
- Are you sure that the reflective layer isn't damaged? Check if there are small spots where light shines through
- Is it possible that the CD-Rs you're talking about are dying (chemically)?
- Have you tried using some CD recovery software like CDDataRescue or CDCheck?

hey i have had a few problems with some cd-r cd's. almost all problems were about that error cylic reduncy and everytime i would get that error the cd would not load. i don't know if this can help u but the cd-r cd's that gave me those problems i fix using some tool called gamedoctor. it cleans and removes scratches from ur cd's or dvd's. they sell gamedoctor i think almost everywhere like in walmart and i'm sure that in a game store too for $30 bucks. if u buy gamedoctor theres a small spray liquid bottle that comes included with it to spray on the cd's for them to get clean. well if u buy it and if u ever run out of the liquid u can always use purified water and that works just perfectly for cleaning ur cd-r too. i tried it and it works like a charm.
