Has any backup ever worked on that system?
Find out what mod-chip is in it and also post the version of the console please.

It probly has to do with your booktypying! Im having the same trouble with it, I tried them all (DVD Decrypter, Nero, ect) and still nothing! Im just learning about this myself, let me know if you come across anything. Also, it can be the kind of media your using, so look into that too

yes i have about 45 cd games backed up and my mod chip took a dump
so i just use the gamesshark and open up the ps2 and do the flip top swap trick . i just replace the gameshark disk with backukp and put the little white magnetic thing on so it dont fly off and they all boot up.

You have them all backed up but you can't back them up?
Also,
Quote: on so it dont fly off and they all boot up
So, everything is working fine now?

Ok, lets start with the kind of media you are using.
The older ps2's worked better with DVD-R and the new ps2's work better with DVD+R.
What are you backing them up onto?

Yep, Sony or Verbatum. I use Sony myself and love them.
