When you want to make a backup of your DVD movie, do you have to rip it first or can you make a copy straight away??
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If you want coasters don't rip -
You can't copy "Copy Protected" DVD's.
Use Shrink DVD (it's free) it will also compress your DVD to 4.4 GB or smaller, in order to fit on a single DVD. Almost all DVD's are too large to fit on 1 disc. then Nero or Clone DVD to burn and you'll have a full copy of your DVD.
Good luck, "P"

About the closest you can get is using DVD X copy express, It will do it all. I also have X copy gold that will burn without compression using two discs. I don't use these much anymore because of the warning that gets implanted and you don't have much control over the process and quality of the finished DVD.

fasfrank,
Bear in mind if you decide to go the 4X speed burner route, always put that baby inside using your IDE cable, using it with a USB connection will keep you burning in the 2.4X level. You can only burn as fast as you can supply data to your burner (my first mistake). As you can see, I wasn't satisfied and kept adding more stuff.
I'm probably not done, you know how it is - -
