It may be something to do with problematic codecs or lack of codecs for playback.

Are you talking about the links in my signature. The Pioneer 106 and 106d are exactly the same. Also, those are firmware upgrades, really for making the drive multiregional.

I don't think i'll mess with the multi region side the writer works fine for what i use it for,i only need to overcome the playing the xvid side of things,iv'e taken out other playing programs like power dvd etc and left in media 9 but it still plays for a 2nd then locks up iv'e taken them out of the add/remove programs so theres just bs player...is there some other program that will play xvid cd's that won't lock up my p.c when playing??

Vidomi player.

Also, have you tried copying to a directory on the computer and playing form there instead of off the hard disk?

just tried the vidomi player and no luck there, tried to copy an image of the xvid to a vitual drive and it still didn't play,i used media play 9,bs player, and real player with the imaged AVI and all started but locked up...i'm starting to think this is an impossible film xvid to play?bs player is now saying 'display hardware is not capable of colour-space conversions.switching to RGB and then i get a black screen and it locks up,what settings do i need to have on ?many thanks so far Oriphus for your answers and time youv'e put in to answering my questions but i think this is a lost cause, xvid coasters all round i think?

Good luck

Is it just one Xvid Video, that has played before it was put onto to disc? Also, im afraid my limited experience of Xvid has come to an end. It may be better to ask these questions here in the DivX/Xvid forum:

Many thanks Oriphus for trying, this cd works on my friends setup fine i put it on mine and it locks up,he's got win2k as well but he uses a cdwriter to play his where as i us a pioneer 106d to play mine, remember i have even put the film into a virtual f drive and it still locks up,iv'e now got the g-spot program working and that say's the direct show says it should work fine,so your guess is as good as mine, many thanks anyway,i'll try the other forum as you said, cheers
