Ive been burning backups with a Pioneer 111D Burner, ive had this burner for about 1 year now, but it seems to fail reading discs or not finding any disc, does this assume my burner is dead now; possibly a bad laser or somthing, can i replace the laser myself or somthing.

I dont want to invest into buying another Pioneer 111D Burner, but would the Pioneer 112D Burner work fine or others?

Thanks.

Might need to upgrade your firmware.

I have the Pioneer 112d and it works fantastic, supposed to be the best burner to date.

I dont think it has to do anything with the firmware.

Like for example - I put in a game disc or a movie - It wont read the disc, either it says disc not found or not reading.

the laser is probably dirty. i'd say try one of those laser cleaner discs.

It's more cost effective to just buy another drive than to replace laser. 111d is $30 shipped these days.

antoher thing i remebered: if you don't want to buy a cleaner disc, you can oopen up the drive untill you see the lens, then blow really hard on it and wipe it with a lens paper. i have revived 3 or 4 drives and cd players this way.

my pioneer 108 used to do this, opened here up like burningas said before
(its not difficult),used an ear bud to clean her lense up,and was good as new

I have just bought a pionner 112,which is the same as the 112d,but has more features i think (dvd-ram)..works perfectly
and only £20 from svp

it also doesn't have to be a pioneer, LG drives work great as well.
