Hi peoples, my friend has bought a 360 from America and came back to China today, the first time he turned on his 360, he got the rings of death - top left, top right, bottom left.

He says he tried the towel trick and didn't work, looks like it needs to be sent back, correct? Or is there another solution?

the towell trick is only a short fix anyway and weill probably kill the other components in the console.
Was it bought new or second hand? if new then send it back, otherwise try the Xclamp replacement

In case you are not aware Microsoft has now given all 360's a three year warranty (from the date of purchase) on the hardware failure (3 red rings of death) issues. It only covers that one specific thing but it is great news for 360 owners. Hopefully they have learned from their mistakes as it has cost them a TON of money fixing this issue so far.
