PSP Analouge Stick Strays Left During Gameplay!!!!!!

Lately I have been playing my psp and have noticed that whilst i left my character standing still in GTA Liberty City Stories the player just walks round in circles in the left hand direction. I am pretty sure this is down to my faceplate being a bit iffy as i am in wait of one that has been ordered for me.

The only way to write the problem is to put the psp on standby and then bring it back out again and sometimes it works but is sure to come back again. This happens on ALL of my games and at the moment the console is pretty much un-playable.
