Is there a way to copy 1 to 2 minutes of a movie from a DVD to be used in a powerpoint presentation?

If so, do I need to convert the file to a .wav or some other type to be played in powerpoint?

Thankyou

You can rip only a selected portion of a video should you need to. Whether or not you include the audio is up to you. A fairly simple program that lets you do selected ripping is DVDx (free, and comes with an excellent beginners guide too, http://www.labdv.com/dvdx/ ). Should you need to further limit your rip, a simple job with VirtualDub is required:

1. Open DVDx
2. File --> Themes --> Metal (use this so you dont need to try to figure out which bloody buttons are which)
3. Click on the DVD/IFO button to load up your DVD (copy protected dvds need to be ripped with something like SmartRipper or DVD Decryptor beforehand or you need to have a software dvd player available).
4. It will take you to the "Input Settings" screen. The most important setting here is the video framerate. Also check the box that says "Audio/Video Synchronization". Click OK when you are done. If it pops ups a box telling you about some error or whatnot, trial and error again with the framerate and the two checkboxes below.
5. Click on the OUT button
6. For "Volume Dont Exceed" select Custom Chapter. Select the Chapter with the sequence you want and click OK. IT takes you back to the Output Settings screen, in the top left corner, there is a drop box, select AVI from it
7. Now set your Video and Audio settings to whatever you prefer and click Apply when done.
8. Click the "File" Button and give it an output file
9. Click the Record button and sit back.

I may have a couple things off because im doing this from memory but the guide that comes with DVDx is a good one to look over too! :-)
