Cant get mahunt to work

I put the game in the ps2 and it works fine but as soon as i goes into story mode and i have to create a profile itjust stays and the save screen and doesn't move. It happends to the one i copied and the original. What is wrong? P.S There is barely a stratch on the dvd.
