Flash 78fk With Laptop Expresscard Sata Controller?

Has anyone tried to flash a Hitachi 78fk (or any other Hitachi) using an Expresscard SATA controller card? My desktop is pretty much dead and I was wondering if there are any tried and true cards out there that might do the trick. I ideally wanted to use the USB to SATA cable everyone seems to be talking about but I guess that's not an option for the 78fk drive. Thanks for any advice!
