Well, I started backing up my games, but, because I hadn't read otherwise about issues burning too fast, I burned 4 DVDs on my external drive, a Samsung DVD/Lightscribe burner on 8x, the fastest speed available, and then proceeded to play computer games while waiting. I'm not sure, but I think the 2GB buffer (for those who don't understand, it buffers the file being transferred into the flash memory prior to starting, and continues doing so for the file so that if the HD gets bogged, the DVD burn won't stop, and still has an enormous time to fix itself) actually made it work. 4 backups on 8x speed, and all of them... seem to work fine. And no, I didn't use special DVDs. I got some random Chinese branded ones that were cheap.

Or, am I just lucky?
