Hi, Ive been out of the PS2 scene for a while and more on the 360 scene so I need a bit of help from the regulars.
Anyway, my mate has give me his PSTwo V12 7003 console to fix. Its not booting anything. CD's, games, DVD's, nada. It boots to the browser fine, but when u put a disk in, it just says reading disk and stays that way. No disk read error, nothing. The PSTwo makes a few clicking noises, not sure if thats normal or not because I cant remember its been that long. Similar thing happened on my old fat PS2, and I adjusted the laser voltage to get it too work. Not sure if that will help on these newer PS2s. Maybe adjust the laser height?
It is normal to hear clicking noises, but mostly when the laser is trying to focus on the disk but it cant, first thing is to insert a dvd, and check to see if the laser is actually lighting up, the cd laser is normally invisible, but when a dvd is inserting you should see a red beam, if the laser is visible, then you can try to adjust the pots on the underside of the laser and see if it helps, dont turn them too much, I guess u already know it can fry the laser if its not already dead, sounds like a laser issue anyway, might need a new laser, is the ribbon from the laser to the motherboard connected securely along with the other ribbons from the snake drive motor, etc?
yep, sounds like a laser problems alright. First step would just be cleaning the laser, then adjusting the laser, then if all else fails replacing it. And while your in there a laser fix would be a good idea on any V12
