When M$ banns you from live, how do they ban you? By your MAC adress? By your serial #? how?

They ban you by your 360's unique I.D. and serial number. You can actually view your serial number from inside the 360 settings menu...it's basically engraved in the console so theres no way around it.

yea they ban u by id and they ban u only when u play backups on live they cant detect custom firmware

So I don't need to worry about playing an origional game online? Only backup games?
Also, I've heard of a way to swap the consoles ID, but I think that was a bunch of crap... has anyone else heard of this?

There's no way for anyone outside of MS to change a console's ID. The latest will only load properly stealth patched backup. You'll be able to play those or original games on Live. Of course you'll be going on Live at your own risk, but you really should be safe.
