\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

im getting this error messag when starting windows xp. i opt to repair the file through the xp disk, however the system asks me to select which partion/section to repair, it doesnt matter what i put in it just keeps on aslking me th same question over again what do i do??
i really dont want to reinstall windows as i will lose some work. please help
