I am a newbie and had never installed a flip top case before this.. Anyway, long story short, i installed the fliptop and now whenever I put in a game and try to load it with the fliptop closed it simply does nothing except a clicking sound every second or so.. If i put in a game and try to load it with the fliptop open, it spins very little with a loud grinding noise and then halts to a stop.. Someone please help me fix my problem =/
Have you installed it correctly, all screws in the right place etc, and on some of the older flip tops, you had to remove the spindle grip from the lid of the original ps2 dvd drive, and install it into the flip top lid so that it would grip the disk, have you done this if it is not already done for you?
in addition to the above some fliptops have problems when you screw the screws in the bottom of the PS2 too tight. YOu can try losening them all a little at a time. Mine would do that. I had to take the screws out of the bottom completely before it would play all my discs right.

I'm sorry, but what exactly is a spindle grid, because I did notice when I had the fliptop open trying to run the game, the disc would pop up out of place, so this seems interesting.
The spindle is the round disk shaped object that the disk is placed on, it is attached to a motor which rotates the grip, ontop of the spindle, on the lid of the actual drive, there is a white spindle, that sits ontop of the spindle that sits in the drive, they have magnetic attraction, this keeps the disk gripped when it is spinning, there is an easy way to find out if this is your problem. Open the lid of your fliptop and see if there is a loose spindle installed inside it, if not, then you need to remove it from the original lid of the ps2 dvd drive, and install it in the lid.
Note: When you leave the lid open and insert a disk, the disk will slip because the lid is not shut, which means the grip is not ontop of the spindle, hence the slipping.
Well, actually.. my case came with a spindle, I thought it would be wise to replace it with my Ps2's anyway.. One of them (the one that came with the flip top) has a piece of metal in it, the other doesn't.. Which do I use?
Have you tried loosening the screws at the bottom of the ps2 as steimy suggested, if your flip top lid already has one installed, then its unlikely that thats the cause of your problem.
