Hello,
I was just trying to back up Premonition (the one with Sandra Bullock) but DVD Shrink and DVDfab are not able to do it. There seems to be a reading problem. Has this happened to any of you guys, or do I just have a back disc?
Thanka a lot!

I'm backing it up with anydvd and shrink. Shrink reads it fine, but when I reauthor it I see 2 english subtitles. 1 for 3 mb and 1 for 10 mb. Not sure which one to use.
Im not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Select the first one (3mb) the other one (10mb) is the subtitles for director's commentary.

Did this one tonight. Not a problem with good ole AnyDVD and NeroRecode, sure cloneDVD could have done it also. With Recode it took it a while to read the disc, starting and stopping several times in reading, before it finished burn-12 mins total time, since movie only, gave 100% compression. Give it time to read. Here's what AnyDVD says about disc.
Summary for drive E: (AnyDVD 6.1.6.5)
BENQ DVD DD DW1650 BCIC KWV3614851SC0
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1
Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 2027168 sectors (3959 MBytes)
Total size: 3938816 sectors (7693 MBytes)
Video DVD (or CD) label: Premonition
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!
RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Changed firstplay: Jump directly to Title 1!
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!
When reading the disc, the drive acted like it did with Saw 3 and all the bad sectors, but none appear on this disc. Anyway I watched the whole movie; it was a perfect burn. (Movie Only)

Used AnyDVD (in the background), Shrink and Imgburn. Watched it last
night. It was fine.
When I have trouble getting the computer to recognize a disc. Before
I open any program I put the disc in and let autorun recognize it.
This brings up a window with options for playing it. I click on take
no action-okay. Then I open Shrink and it works fine.
I find that turning off autorun on this particular computer does not
work as well.

I use the free verion of ANYDVD and the autostart feature was checked but it does not ask me to play the disc. Still no luck so far. Thx for the input though.

@taylan
There is no free version of AnyDVD, only a free 21 day trial.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. The copy I had was defective. One of the documentaries was so messed up that my DVD player wouldn't even play it. But I got another copy that works just fine.
Thanks again.

What anyDVD didn't pick up on Premonition in its scan was about 25 bad 0 MB files of undescribed subtitle languages. I had shrink read the disc and there they were.

- i used DVDFab HD Decrypter 3.1.4.0 in movie only mode. Didn't need to use DVD Shrink as files were small enough to fit on a DVD-5 anyway. No problems with this movie, Region 2 PAL anyway.

You have a bad pressing it is not the encryption. I used what you used with no problems. I am using the latest DVDfab. Ripit4me was good for bad pressings but Sony took care of them.
Try AnyDVD and see if it helps. Please post your results on the board good or bad. I would be interesting if a completely different process is effected by marginal disks. Sony knew what they were doing when they put Ripit4me out of business. Now good drives are your only help with marginal disks.

Just look up a few posts at Creaky's and follow what he recommended. I guarantee it will work. You'll get 100% if you do movie only.

I tried it with CloneDVD2 v2.9.0.9 and AnyDvd v6.1.6.5 and the actors voices cannot be heard. However the background noises you can hear.
Any ideas. Trying it now with Nero Recode.

Did this one last night with AnyDVD 6.1.6.6 and CloneDVD (movie only), and it worked fine. Took a few minutes longer to read for some reason, but plays fine.
