Hello. I have a disc read error on my ps2 V9 after accidentally dropping it on the ground. I cleaned the laser and looked for anything out of line but it still doesnt seem to work. The magnent also is really strong but when the disc loads, it just seems a little slower than usual. Can someone tell me why i am still getting this disc read error? Thanks!

All right, you are not going to like my answer.

Do your other ps2 games work fine?

If not, and you get the same disc read error, then most likely you are going to have to open up your ps2 and clean the laser.

You might also need to re-adjust the laser height.

i already cleaned the laser but readjusting the laser heights means twisting the white gear near the laser, correct? thanks!

Yes, I suggest you start adjusting the cog wheel. Turn it all the way clockwise until the laser falls to the lowest level, then turn the wheel about 3 clicks and watch the laser rise and re-test the games.

Yes, this is a white wheel next to the laser.

the slim has 2 cog wheels? I did not know that.

One wheel is definitely for the height of the laser, but the second cog wheel, is that for the disc tray?

I hoped you marked the original spot for the cog wheels.

it's not a slim ps2, it's an older ps2... but a version 9. I see the cog wheels, 1 on the left and 1 on the right. They both are at the ends of the bar which hold the laser. It seems like you are raising the bars whenever you do this. Would this be the same thing as lifting the laser ? or is there another cog wheel? I cant find a tutorial or anything on a V9 ps2 to show me. I only see older ps2s which have the cog wheel in a different place. Can you help at all? thanks!

I think finally on this forum, I am a savior for someone. :)

Please read. This is what I did to my ps2 a week ago, and I thought it was broken but now it works flawlessly.

I think i saw that before but its for the lower version ps2's. Plus, my drive keeps ejecting now and i dunno whats up with that. Is it something to do with how i screwed something in? I think i read something about that, but cant seem to get it correct. Can you help me out here? Thanks!

Oh, your ps2 version looks totally different?

I mean its similiar right? As in the cog wheel location that you got to rotate or no?

I have a version 4 so it worked for me. I'm not sure how it really looks for a version 9.

yea.. my outside is the same.. when you look inside it looks a little different than a v4 ps2. I have two cog wheels instead of the 1 which the v4 has. That isnt as much of the problem right now though. Do you know why my tray keeps ejecting? I think it might be something with the screws? I dunno. Can you help? thanks!
