Ok so the PS3 DOES support 1080i, but do the games? and is it better to play the game on 720p or on 1080i

Yes the games support 1080i, and most if not all support 1080p.

As for whether 720p or 1080i is better, not really sure but id imagine 1080i would be.

I dunno about "most if not all" games supporting 1080p, but many of the recent games, like Ninja Gaiden Sigma, support 1080p. A lot of the early games only supported 720p (like NFS Carbon).

It's up to you if you like 720p or 1080i. I think both are brilliant-but that's only because I started out playing the PS3 on SDTV.

Sigma looks amazing on 720p.
