A friend of mine picked up a movie on the streets of New York that I'm trying to back up. The disc plays great on my PC's & lap tops but won't play in any of my home dvd units. I tried 4 different players with no luck. 3 of the players say "error" and my DVD recorder unit says "Incompadable Disc". What can I do to back this movie up so it plays? Appricate any & all input.

When mine won't play in the home units it's usually because of the media used. If I use a DVD+ and change the booktype they then play fine.

Book type and region type tells the player if it should read the disk. Computer burners do not obey those conventions. I don't think that is the problem. I figure the media is marginal. Computer reader/burners are usually superior to far superior then most readers. The better reader/burners can read well enough to play but not well enough to copy.
Try ripit4me. That ought to work. Use FixVTS as well. You will need to install that first then Ripit will use it. If you don't use it, the copied disk will probably be skippy at best.
There is no quality control for street disks. Low quality disks (reject quality) can be had on ebay for real cheap. I bought 500 or maybe it was 1000 for $20 and $80 shipping. They turned out to be junk that could only be read by high end (computer drives). It was going to cost me more to ship than the $20 so I kept them. They are usable as data disks. You make more profit if you use cheap media.

RI4M does not use FixVTS in the last couple of versions of the program. You may use the program separately if you desire, but normally RI4M will do just fine on its own.
Because RipIt4Me does not have it's own web page any longer it is always a good idea to drop a link on where to get the latest version of the free program. Link
If you need a copy of FixVTS you may download it here. Link

It might also help if we know what format the film is in. It may not be PAL or NTSC it may be AVI or WMV or another format that can only be read on the computer. What software are you using to watch the film on the computer?

I just tried ripit4me & burned it with decrypter, again no luck. Won't play in any of the 5 dvd players I had. It plays on my PC in both windows media player & windvd4. Win I open the files on the disc I see Video_TS, inside that the following 10 folders:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
VTS_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
Any Suggestions?

What burn engine are you using? Maybe try the ImgBurn that I suggested. Also try VobBlanker Link
jsoto has a link for a guide to use it. There is also a thread by my buddy "alkohol" for the basic use of it. alkohol Link You may also want to try a different ripper such as DVDFab. The link is in my above post and also in my sig.
Let me know what happens!

I also tried running the VOB files thru FixVTS seperatly & reburn the disc, that too failed to work. I did throw one of the copies back into Clone and it's saying that the problem is with the DVD structure. The program itself, tries to repair it, but it to failed to do so. After wasting 7 blanks with various programs & rippers without any success, I guess it's time to throw in the towel. Sure would have been nice to get an advance copy of transfomers. Thanks to all for your input.

The last version of Ripit4me was built in March. Sony shut them down. This is a quote from the web site from which you can down still load that version.
Quote:
"As of March 31, the RipIt4Me website has been closed and development of the program has been discontinued, and as of April 19 the same goes for FixVTS

Before you give up download the 21 day free trial of AnyDVD. Maybe it will do a better job ripping it for you. You can rip with AnyDVD by right clicking the fox head in the task bar.
Get some RW disk to burn to so that you do not waist DVD's!!

I have AnyDVD & Clone as well. There is no protection on the disc being it's a so-called bootleg. The problem is with the dvd structure itself. It's not recognized in a stand alone dvd player. I can rip it & burn it in serveral different programs however the result is the same, the disc won't play on a regular DVD player, only on a PC or laptop. The ripper in AnyDVD won't rip it because of the bad dvd structure & clone as well gives the same message. I've been backing up discs for years now & this is the first one I haven't beeen able to figure out. Whoever burt it must have done something incorrectly.

Did you try what syxguns suggested? Try ImagBurn or Nero. They might be able to copy the disk out right. You could also take the second suggestion. If you copy the disk to files VobBlanker might be able to create a proper structure to the video. Obviously, the video is in tact.
