Backup DVD-R not playing properly?

I am trying to backing up my daughters Toy Story and Alice in Wonderland DVD's, but ran into a problem where the DVD shows having over 7GB /8GB of data? I compressed with DVD Shrink (level 6 as to fit on the 4.7GB disc) and burned w/Nero 6, but the DVD doesn't play smoothly? It stops and starts constantly. I am using a Memorex +/- DVD Burner with Memorex DVD-R's. Is there another program I can try, or am I missing something else?

I use dvdshrink with 100% success. Pioneer A05 dvd-r burner and recordnow max. Nero should work fine. Is your burner plugged into the master slave controller. Also try using different media.

ive had a few coasters and this tend to happen when i burn a dvd and have my pc doing other stuff ?!? so now when i burn a dvd i usualy close everything except what must be running then burn a dvd and havent had any problems.

but then again it could just be iffy media

Thnks for the replies! I think it was the media. I've had quite a long streak of good luck with media and it looks like I have a few bad discs in this batch. The most recent ones I made are fine.
