GoW2 DVD9 missing layer, how to burn?

Hi all!

I recently burned God of War 2 (the echelon one) to a Traxdata double layer disc, using ImgBurn 2.3.2.0 with 1x speed. When I come to the Great Chasm in the game, the game just stops. It's a similar problem to what others have been seing, when going over the bridge the music stops and the scripted event that's supposed to happen just doesn't work. Also that save point close to the bride makes the game freeze.

So trying to see the credits (which are on the second layer) also freezes the game. Conclusion: the second layer is not accessible.

My PS2 is a slim model with Matrix Infinity (original) using firmware 1.75. My burner is a Samsung TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183A SB03 (ATA) with the latest firmware.

My questions are thus as follows:
How do you properly burn a double layer iso with the equipment I have?
Is it a medium problem (Traxdata)?
Are there any special measurements that need to be taken? Settings on the chip, in the burner etc?
