I was pleasantly surprised to find an option to save a copy of on-line videos in the new Real Player (RP11). It will save Real Media files with no conversion and will transcode (right term?) other formats. The videos are saved in files with a .IVR (Internet Video Recording) extension.

What I am trying to find out is if these recordings have time limits or otherwise self destruct. Also, if anyone is working on any conversion utilities to turn them into MPGs or WMVs, etc.. I can't even tell from Real's web site if Real opposes any such conversion. I've tried the obvious things such as renaming the files to .RM, .WMV, .MPG, etc.. I'm pretty sure the format is ALMOST identical to .RM since .RM files on the internet record to local .IVR files VERY quickly without moving the CPU load off 1%. RealPlayer documentation says that other formats use a lot of CPU to convert to IVR.

There don't appear to be DRM issues with the files I've recorded. I can copy them to another PC and they play fine in RP11.
