OK. I've been reading a lot and searching and so far I have not been able to fix this issue. I sure hope someone out there can help me out.

Keep in mind that that I'm on my second WiiKey. Both shipped with the hologram and each from different places recommended by wiikey.cn.

My first attempt I used the direct solder technique and appeared to be clean job. The chip was a d2a.
When I put in the backup copy it was unreadable but the originals still worked. I then try the wiikey setup 1.2 and that was unreadable as well. Even tried burning at 2x and using both a +R and -R DVD.
I did more reading online and did think that maybe I had a DOA WiiKey. So I went ahead and purchased a new one from another source.
While waiting, I was able to get ahold of a board with the d2b chip. I wanted to start fresh so I used this board to confirm that the first chip did not work on it. It of course had the same results.
Now the new chip shows up and I run the through the same process. Direct solder, with a piece of electric tape as a buffer between the two boards. I was very disappointed to get the same results. None of the backups, even ones that work in another mod'd Wii, work in mine with the WiiKey(s). Including any of the many setup discs that I've attempted. I'm very discourged at this point.

Please Help!

Why oh why are you using the direct solder method? Try using wires and see if that works.

What's wrong with the direct solder method? The connections look really good.

Usually it causes more problems than the wired method. Using wires makes a much better connection.

OK. I have it resoldered with the wires. It looks like I've good connection everywhere and still have the same results. Could it be possible that I have 2 bad WiiKeys? Not sure what to do from here. As I said, the Wii Plays as if the WiiKey wasn't there and on.

I guess so. Or maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Can you maybe post a picture of the installation?

I've followed what everyone else has been doing. Seen lots of pics of good and bad. I feel fairly confident it's right but a second opninion would be great.
My camera will not get the resolution needed for a good pic. I'll have to wait til tomorrow to grab one from work.
Any other suggestions in the meantime are welcome.

Have you managed to get the wiikey working? I highly doubt that you got two wiikeys DOA. A possibility would be perhaps one of the soldering joints is not connected securely, splashing may have occured, or even all the connects and disconnects may have somehow damaged the chip through overheating.

I have the exact same problem!!! I feel confident that the solder points are all good. I have soldered and resolder. I have a wii bought in canada with a d2b chipset and the 3 legs missing. I exposed teh legs and soldered directly to the traces. I have tried 2 clone wiikeys and a REAL wiikey with halogram. None of my disc boot disk work or any of my gamecube games that definately work on my gamecube. Original wii games play perfect. it is like the modchip is not even installed.
