After a failed mod attempt (solder block that turned into a disaster when i tried to remove it) I decided to put in a non-moded motherboard. I put it in but the ps2 wont detect a cd of any kind in the tray (dvd or anything). I tried to run the diagnostics but it wont do that (i assume because ps2 is getting no cd info not even the info to say that there is a cd in it) the cd tray opens and closes fine and seems to spin when shut but nothing else happens. Light blinks when you open and goes solid when shut like normal.
Hope someone else has encountered this problem and fixed it or at least someone has something to try. (i opened up the ps2 twice to check for ribbons not plugged in so i dont think its that but maybe i ruined one? but i dont know which if i did)

Tried another test where I unplugged the white ribbon that seems to connect the mobo to the cd-drive. after doing this the cds put in the tray fail to spin but otherwise the ps2 acts exactly the same ie lights are on and wont go into diagnostics. I'm thinking this tells me there is something skrewy with that connection or is that all that one would expect from unplugging that ribbon?
