Im trying to backup a DVD I just got...but I've ran into a problem. I used DVD HD Decrypter to decrypt it, FixVTS'ed it, and when I opened it in DVD Shrink, I'm getting the following error:
"The current DVD size is too big! If you continue, you may not be able to burn the resulting files.
Please ensure that video is set to Automatic compression, or try removing some audio streams.
Are you sure you want to continue? [Yes] [No]"
Now, looking through all of the options, the biggest audio stream is LPCM 2-ch English at 1277MB...under the Main Movie folder.
I'm sort of new to DVD copying...I tried a search here for LPCM 2-ch English and lead me to a post about another similar "music" band DVD, that had huge LPCM audiostreams...and the poster reported that there was bad sound quality when he removed the LPCM stream. So I'm guessing I would be in the same boat if I removed that stream as well.
Is this a music DVD you're trying to back up?
A lot of music DVDs have PCM audio and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. In most cases, you really don't need the PCM audio. The PCM audio track is usually a lot bigger in size. Preview both audio streams and if they both sound the same, untick the PCM audio. This should give you better compression and will fit on a single layer disc. Don't worry if you don't have a stereo surround system either. It will be downmixed on your TV, so you'll still be able to hear it. Unless it's DTS. Then you WILL have to have a surround sound system with a DTS decoder.
You need a more up-to-date ripper. There is at least one endless loop in your video. That is why it is too big. Even if you put it on a dual layer it will not play.
I don't think anything is wrong with the disc or the ripper...DVD Shrink doesn't alter the audio in any way shape or form. If the audio tracks are putting the compression over the top due to excessive file size some thing has to be removed or as attar suggested run the file through twice.
The LPCM track is usually 3-4x larger than at DTS file which is usually 2X larger than a typical AC3 track....remove all the audio except AC3 5.1 and there should be no problems at all with the audio playback.
