hi So um I have an .avi file that I want to as a result have it on a dvd and be able to play it on a stand alone dvd player
So far I have taken the avi file and using tmpgEnc coverted to mpeg-2, as I heard i needed to do this first but Im not sure So now am I supposed to convert that to a vob file and burn that to a dvd? I tried to burn the mpeg2 file with Nero to a dvd, but when i played it on a dvd player I only get the audio thankyou in advance I ve tried so many things and i still need help sry im a noob
Burn the DVD with 'ImgBurn' using the output from VSO.
(The download button, top-left.)
http://www.imgburn.com/
Run ImgBurn Mode > 'Build'
Output > 'Device'
File > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x, click the green write button.
ConvertXtoDVD (the paid version of the above) explicitly asks for the 'TV Format' and the choices are 4:3 and 16:9.
My limited understanding states that the DVD video contains a flag which tells the standalone player to either output the video 'as-is' or in a letterbox.
The flag (I presume) reflects the response to 'Aspect'.
Only insofar as vsoDivxToDVD, if you set 'Aspect' to 16:9 (because you know the source is a wide screen movie)then, when displayed on a standard 4:3 TV, the image will be 'Zoomed'.
I'm not familiar with vsoDivxToDVD, but do know it to be a program that's best left to die. There are many newer free alternatives available that produce outstanding results.
With ConvertX if a WS source is used and FS is chosen for the output it will produce a DVD with the correct AR for a normal FS TV, but the same DVD in a 16:9 set will be off, it will have to be zoomed/pillared/stretched etc. Leaving ConvertX to 'Automatic' with the same source it will produce a 16:9 (WS) DVD. This DVD will play correctly in both a FS or WS TV, just like WS commercial DVDs do.
With NeroVision 3 the same also applies. A WS source to 16:9 out, produces a DVD that plays correctly on both TVs.
Denigrating that which I am not familiar with holds no appeal for me.
To kuroemon I hope you find an answer that serves your needs.
Good luck.
