There are 2 ways I'd recommend: Use DVD Decrypter to rip, then DVD2One to compress the movie or entire DVD to DVD-r size, the quality is still excellent. OR, use DVD Shrink to rip and compress. Either way works well. Tiz merely a matter of preference.

Bodene - this is a double post - the other post was right below it. Dont asnwer this post when it was obvious that the other post had been answered by Herbsman, it only makes to confuse matters when there are two sets of posts relating to the same question :-D

I didn't see the other thread until I had already submitted this response. I wouldn't have answered it had I seen the other first. =)

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

If you are having problems using Nero then you should use one of the guides on the afterdawn website.

I've been using DVD2One to back-up my movies with great results ,but I was wondering if anyone has any used the software from Pinacle. I was out at the local PC fair and a reliable vendor I've purchased media from has been selling it and says he's been getting nothing but good feedback on it. I only use movie only mode for DVD2One ,but I'm curious of which program does a better job of putting full disc features onto one piece of media, thanks

I've experienced problems with DVD-videos burned with Nero 6.0.0.23. Some movies aren't playable in my standalone dvd-player (Pioneer DV-525), there is basicly freezing between chapters.

But now I've found program called Elby's CloneDVD. Miracle happened, same material transcoded with DVDShirnk and burned with CloneDVD is playing fine in my standalone. I've even used same DVD-RW media in these tests.

In other hand, these chapterfreezing discs play fine in my Baze DVD5500 standalone player...

bazza2004,
skipping and freezing usually hints for bad media, especially if the discs have been working earlier. Some low quality discs might mysteriously lose some data after some time, which might result in stuttering and freezing, especially towards the end of the movie. It has happened to me too with some discs, they work perfectly for some time and then suddenly they don't.
A simple solution to this is usually to get better discs next time. If that doesn't help, you need to check your firmware/programs/system setup etc. Another reason for skipping might be labels, if you use those. I have huge problems with labels, too.
