How do I backup the firmware on a MS28? (Getting orig.bin)

My problem is that I want to use the xtreme53 firmware. However, in order to create the bootable USB I need to choose my hacked firmware. But, xtreme53 says that in order to create the hacked firmware, I need the orig.bin from the Xbox.

Can anyone walk me through extracting orig.bin? Do I use iPrep? Can I use iPrep to extract the original firmware without having the hacked firmware first?

I will not be playing Live and because I do not have a DL burner, I had a friend backup all my games. Unfortunately, not all have "xtreme patch" as told by the Mulleter Program.

I want all backups to work and maximize compatibility. Therefore I won't be using the iXtreme v1.2C. (And besides I don't understand the whole a/b/c/d thing anyway.)

Tell me if I'm correct in my reasoning.

That reasoning is fine. I'd suggest using 5.3c.

a - drive always reads backups fast (12x)
b - drive always reads backups slow (4x)
c - drive reads backups fast by default, but can be switched to slow without changing firmware.
d - drive reads backups slow by default, but can be switched to fast without changing firmware.
