I'm trying to back up the movie for frequent watching so the kids don't mess up the original, any is not reading the movie, also hd fab decripter I even tried ripit4me nothig is happening
is like with the epic movie it would play on a stand alone dvd player.but will not play on the pc??? any ideas??? thanks guys for your help
No one is allowed to play 'real' disks in our house. It is so easy and cheap to make a back up.
You realy do have a problem. What is the movie? I am sure you have a bad pressing. Ripit4me is the best for baddisks but is out of date and there is nothng to take its place. If this is true you need to get a hold of a better disk. Fair use still applies even if you copy another disk. You still have purchased copywrited copy.
Lastly, is the disk perfectlly clean? Can you see smuges if you hold the disk up to the light?

MEZ, what's with your first thought? Care to share your other thoughts other than what you have poted?
It is not the encryption. I do not fully understand the problem but I have seen lots of them. My guess is the encryption key is slightly buggered. Rip4me works well on this problem because it makes its own key. For some reason, probably by design, the keys are usually the hardest thing to read well enough to copy. It is easier to play than to copy. I have experienced a set of disks where most disks could be copied with Shrink alone. 2 could only be copied with ripit4me. This occurred when ripit first came out. I posted my problem and was ridiculed by several members saying I was a moron; the set was copy able with Shrink when I could not use high end rippers to get a copy. Someone suggested I use Ripit4me. At that time I figured the disks had different protection schemes. Now I am convinced 'they' aren't that smart. The quality of the disk was low. Since then, I have seen this same scenario over and over again. Ripit4me is the only software that does well with this problem. Unfortunately, Sony put them out of business so there has not been an update in 6 months. Be mindful, Sony targeted them for a reason. I am sure Sony has put a new wrinkle in all their disks so the old ripit4me can't work. If ripit failed you are SOL. Maybe there is a finger print on the disk and a current ripper might be able to work if that smudge was removed. That is real unlikely but worth a shot. The other more likely to succeed problem is try another disk.
It is best if you have a problem with a movie just name it. If many have had no problems using the same software, the disk is bad.
I managed to back up my copy of The Abandoned with the last version of RipIt4Me (w/FixVTS) that was available. I use the "Movie Only" feature for all my backups.
