I know my pc's DVD drive can't read the PS3's Blu-Ray discs. I was wondering if there was some way to get the image of my PS3 games onto my computer with out a BR Drive. Is there a way to use the PS3 to get an image of a Blu-Ray game?

I have a 1TB MyBook External HDD. I would like to put the images of my games on it (PS1, PS2, & PS3). But I really dont want to shell out at least $300 on a Blu-Ray drive that just reads :/

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alright. As for my previous post. I found my answer.

My main question would be.

Does anybody know if a Western Digital 1TB MyBook External HDD (usb) would be compatable with the PS3? I know theres no ISO loader yet, but I just want to put all my "eggs in one basket"

There in lies a problem... the PS3 only recognizes external HD,s formatted as FAT32, and this type of drive can only manage single files of no more than 4gigs.
A BD disc image has at least 6gigs of info on it.

Very true sudds. Sony was on point by trying to do anything and everything that they can to stop the ps3 from being exploited. The more I look into the situation Im starting to believe that an iso loader is impossible. The ability to run unsigned code(homebrew) may be possible but like he said at fat32 anything over 4 gigs will cause problems. If you plan on using it for storage and system backup then 1TB is a good choice. As an alternative you might want to look into they make a 750 gig hdd thats internal and fully functional with ps3

I think a compatible drive for PS3 is a 2.5-inch serial ATA model commonly found in notebooks, the Seagate Momentus 5400.2.
Am not sure if it matters what make, but it must be as spect as above.

As I remember, the PS3 can only support a 120GB laptop hard drive

Thanks for the replies. So far I guess my best bet would be a 3.5" 750gb internal HDD w/ an IDE to SATA adapter?

Is this true for internal HDD as well? Or just external drives? If I swapped my PS3's default 60gb HDD with a 750gb or 1TB internal HDD (3.5" w/adaptor cable), I would have to format the new drive with FAT32 right? That would mean there would be the same problem of only managing single files of no more than 4gb.

Or the answer im hoping for......internal HDD dont have to be formatted as FAT32, and can manage any size file. :/

The internal HD might be formatted to a Sony File system. FAT32 doesn't allow you to format above 30GB if I am correct.

thanks for the promt response!

So I should be fine with a huge capacity drive (internal). External drives have to be FAT32 (limited), and internal drives can be formatted as a "Sony File System" (not limited).

Geez. I wonder how long it would take for the PS3 to format a 1TB HDD? It took 3 hours and 50 minutes for it to format the 60GB.

Wow, thats long. Can't Sony make up a "Quick Format" Option?!

I think there is already a quick format option, and a regular format option.
