I've had my ps2 for about 5 years now and I love it. Last year I started to get disk read errors, so I cleaned the lens. This was a temperary fix. I worked for a while, then the ps2 stopped reading disks agian. This cycle continued for a few months. Eventually I did some research and learned howto adjust the laser. This dramtically fixed my problems for some time. Then the problem just kept coming back. So I eventually put the ps2 down and messed my my softmodded xbox.
Now I want to start using my ps2 again. for both gaming and my ps2 linux kit which i never really got into as much as id like, but I cannot get it to read disks. I have tryed both cleaning the lens and adjusting the laser to no aval.
So now I'm stuck. Could I put a mod chip on the ps2 and backup my games to my ps2's HDD? I am not familar with mod chips at all. I have only ever done softmods. Do mod chips load dashboards?
Any other advise who be appreacaited..
ps I have a v5/v6 ps2 (i think the model number is scph-30001 R)
XBOX has a OS that is on the hdd ps2 does not. To load games and stuff off of the HDD use HDadvance or something like that. Swap Magic is like a cheat device(gameshark) that can play copied games. Moschips for PS2 are a pain to install. Most people mess up the PS2.

or you could fix the little white gear kinda close to the laser but you have to take it apart. that gear adjust the laser level so if its off it causes d.r.e's
Dang...i forgot that u havd a messed up laser... If u have a messed up laser, theres not much u can do since u already tried adjusting the lasers and cleaning it... You could load some games off the HDD, but first u need to use a disk HDAdvacnce, but u cant because the lasers messed up. As with the laser adjustment u already did, do u mean the white gear, or the pot mod?

I understand that the xbox has a bootloader, but ps2 has one too. The question stands is there a modchip with an OS on it?

I adjusted both the white cog and the other smaller torc screw. I am testing all the laser locations now trying to find a sweet spot.
