dvd-r read prob in denon1600 using dvdxcopy1.5.2

I am using dvdxcopy 1.5.2 and nero ultra 6 and am able to write the disc and read in computer but not in denon dvd1600. I have no problems reading discs with the dvd-r compusa and ridata 1x discs using dvdshrink/nero but both do not read with dvdxcopy/nero. What am I doing wrong? also, when i use dvdshrink and strip everything but movie and dts soundtrack it will not read the disc either. It does read when I leave all sound, but cannot select dts without menu. any clues??? using pletor 8x px-708a dvd drive and windows xp. thanks
