should i externally power my DVD drive while flashing?

a lot of people say i should do this in order to avoid getting banned, but i'm not sure. should i, or does it matter?

i heard if you do it without the video cable plugged into the 360 it won't log anything and your safe. but you have to do it in under 5 minutes, which is more then enough!
is it 100% safe?

ive flashed hundreds with no external power and have had no problems.
I have lost all and any respect i had for this site!

did ask those hundered if they got banned of xbox live?
yeah im asking whoever knows for sure is it like 100% safe?

GaryOPA said it could banned because of no DVD drive connected while on, but latter debunked it himself. Still I always flash with a separate power source, because I have that thought in my head now. Plus I have a bricked/banned motherboard laying around anyway so that's what I use.

in order to externally power it, short of having an xbox 360 motherboard lying around like you, i would have to buy either the xeno or team xecuter connectivity kit correct?

I can't find the exact discussion when he says it, but as you see here tells people to connect to the Xbox 360 to power the DVD drive and this is long after the bannings and the idea of the non DVD drive connecting logs were discussed.

No problem. And there's no need to buy anything other than a PCI SATA card if you need one for flashing unless you have a 0079fk.

lol they are all friens family and people i work with so yes i would know if there where any problems.
