I just got it and printed my first label on a DVD. My problem is that the image is extremely light and splotchy. I would just try some different settings, but at $1.40 or so a disc, I don't want to waste a bunch of DVD-Rs. Can anyone offer up any advice on why this happened and what I can do to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the 900 and have been using it for a couple of months to print DVDs and CDs. If you are using the option "CD/DVD" where it lets you pick what medium you are printing on, you usually get crappy results. I go back into the printer options and select photo paper or glossy photo paper. These usually produce the best results. Also pick up a pack of printable CDs to practice with...they are a lot cheaper. In my experience sometimes to have to pick a higher saturation to get a nice image, but with dark images a lighter one works best. An image with lots of dark colors dont show up that well. Also if its splotchy as in looking textured, take your original image, open it with photo editor and use the despeckle filter. That usually takes care of most of the problems for me. Any more questions feel free to ask.

rsb64113,

What template are you using to print the DVD/CD? Are you using the software included with the printer? I don't like that software and want to use a different label program, but I am not sure what template to tell the program to print to (Neato, Avery, etc.) so I have not yet printed any DVD/CD's. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Slick,

Yep...Im using the Epson Print CD software package that's included with the printer. It's pretty basic but you can get decent results with it. I use the insert picture icon as opposed to the background option as I can manipulate the image better. I usually expand the image a little bigger than the dvd so i get a little overprint on the dvd. I wipe the excess away with a Q-tip. Another trick is to sometimes change the diameters of the template itself...either method works so that all of the dvd is printed..nothing worse than having white areas. I recommend getting some printable Cds from memorex to try out. It will give you a good feel on where to align your plastic template and such. Also a good way to play with saturation levels.

I get all my printable media online. I have used:

www.supermediastore.com

www.allmediaoutlet.com

www.meritline.com

Meritline has DVD-R that have no stack ring (you can print all the way to the center hole) for DVD's that have full face graphics. Hope this helps.

I used Meritline for my first purchase and will never do so again. First they sent me the wrong merchandise, and secondly it was such a long drawn out process to get what I ordered, I said screw it and kept the wrong ones to use in the future, and ordered the right ones elsewhere.
