Are you talking about the actual model of the psp, as shown on the box it came in, and below the bar-code on the psp?
If so i have the same problem, so far as i know there's nothing you can do about it, mine shows:
PSP-1000K
100V
B
One of the originals from Japan, and you can't select it from the list :(
Then again it's no real loss, the only things i wanted from the official site were the extra tracks for WipEout Pure and they can be downloaded straight through the game.
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB
Well, i've never contacted Sony, so you could try that.
But otherwise i was just referring to the fact it can't be selected from the menu. I even worked my way round the Japanese one to see if the had it, but they didn't, seems strange that if you have an older psp, even in countries where they sold them, you can't register it.
There may be a connection with the fact they were original 1.0 and 1.5 firmwares but i'm pulling at straws :)

are you talking about the registration to get your network handle?
when i did that i didnt need the model number of my psp, all i needed was a network access code. then i was sent a password to complete my registration and that was it.
my friend had a japanese import and all he did was ring sony and ask for a new network access code, which was sent by email almost instantly and we carried on the setup from there.
