I've noted that on my backup games it seems to freeze up a bit at certain points, and sometimes the music even just stops, or in a worst case scenario, the entire game freezes completely. It kinda defeats the purpose of using a backup to protect my original game (which has broken once, making me buy another one...) if the gameplay value is even less than what the broken dvd can do. It gets annoying when my game starts skipping a bit everytime I enter a battle. I've made multiple copies, and even recopied from the original game, so I'm a bit at a loss here.

I use swap magic coder to play my backup games, with a slide card to open the cd case.

I have no idea what kinda hardware my comp has, as I'm not exactly tech savvy. I use DVD Decrypter to make my backups, and dvd's that have hp invent logo on it. I copy at 1X speed, as I've read that the slower the better.

The games in question are Star Ocean 3 (the one that broke, prompting me to start backing up... skips are negligible), Valkyrie Profile 2 (horribly skipping here), Ar Tonelico (skips a lot, but ignorable), and Atelier Iris 3 (skips a little, but music is prone to stop at certain points).

I do admit my PS2 is getting a bit on the years, but it seems to play the original ones just fine. I'm a bit paranoid though, so I keep those games locked away safely. I've been a bit afraid to play my non-backup games ever since my SO3 mysteriously developed a scratch, despite it having been either in, or on top of my PS2 only.

My question is: How can I get it to work better?
Also, if I were to use a mod chip, would it play better?

Ty in advance.

Crappy media.

You see, it's really about what brand DVDs you use. You have to use the right ones for your PS2, and HP discs suck.

If you want high quallity discs, you should go for Sony DVD-Rs and Verbatim DVD-Rs.

So the discs really matter? Okay, I'll try those out. What's the difference anyways? I've always been a bit curious.

It's all about the dye baby. The quallity discs have metal dyes, making them better.
