thanks for the reply, shoey...i have tried that, clony informs me that i have more drive letters than drives!!...it see's all the drive letters (4) but only see's the 2 virtual drives (Instant CD/DVD & Alcohol)..i have tried deleting the virtual drives but clony still see's them...its getting to be a real headache now, any pointers you have will be gratefully recieved!!!

Go to the options on Instant CD\DVD Copy& Alcohol 120% and disable all virtual stealth drives>reboot and follow my instruction in my previous post. Use just 1 program if you wan't virtul stealth drives, preferably Alcohol 120 m8.

1. If it says there are more drives than letters you dont neccessarily have to disable the other virtual drives. although that may be the easiest approach. All you have to do it match the drive that they list in the box with the drive letter so that Clony knows what drive to associate with what letter.
2. Check also that you have a correctly working ASPI layer.
3. ClonyXXL although perfectly capable of running off a DVDROM drive will fare better if you use a CDBURNER to detect protection schemes.

thanks for the suggestions guys, will try them tonite and hopefully overcome this problem..i have tried your tips praetor - aspi ok- clony/alcohol worked ok at first with the dvd burner but now when i link a virtual drive with a physical drive when i scan a cd, a window appears saying something about there is either no cd in the drive or it doesn't know the protection etc, yet b4 it found the protection of the same disc perfectly, as i am only half way through my backups i need to sort this out!!!

Make sure you select the drive with the disc in it! And it might a good precaution to follow Shoey's suggestion and just disable the virtual drives just to be sure.

ok guys...i think its an aspi problem, i disabled the virtual drives and i can get clony to see the physical ones now but when i first open clony windows brings up its "encountered an error" and shuts down clony, then i restart clony and it starts in what i call safe mode with no aspi layer loaded, it still seems to work ok though....when i run aspicheck it reports all ok but can you tell me if this is right, this is what it says in aspicheck :
Component Version Size
ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2 16877 bytes
WOWPOST.EXE 4.6 (1021) 4672 bytes
WINASPI.DLL 4.6 (1021) 5600 bytes
WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2 45056 bytes
it seems like there are 2 different versions??

Thats the problem.... your ASPI are all different versions. Like I said.... fix the ASPI and your problems will go away. Pick either 4.601 (1021) or 4.71 cant have a combination.
