Hey, I just bought a second hand 360 for my nephews birthday and planned to flash it. Having modded ms25's and hitachis before, I was confident tht this wouldnt be an issue. After opening up the box, I noticed that I have an ms28 drive. After some research, I see that you can only use the 10 second trick with VIA VT6421 chipsets.
Now my problem is, my onboard sata has the intel ICH7 chipset so after hours of researching, I realise that this is defo a no go. Just as I was away to give up, a little light bulb lit up above my head! It so happens that my mate took his PC round to mine earlier for some repairs. It so happens that the onboard sata uses the VIA K8T890 / VIA VT8237A chipset (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=0&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3NwZWNpZmljYXRpb25z&product_uid=112169)
I did read on another forum that it would work but i wanted some conformation before I went ahead with it all.
lol read the review at newegg: "Does exactly what everyone is buying this card for." and "Great Product Bought it for 360 drive did what it was supposed to do" and "I purchased this to flash my xbox 360 drive, which worked fine." LMAO.
I gave it a shot anyway and obviously had no luck. I did read in another forum that someone uses the same chipset all the time for ms28's, obviously he's lying!
I thought I had it too when I got to the dos prompt and it found the xtreme primary master, but it would just never dump the firmware! Oh well, better get ordering now so I can have all done by the wkend!
