Im kinda a noobie @ this, but Ive got the old fat PS2 w/ a 40Gb Maxtor & the network adapter. A buddy of mine gave me the network adapter but no setup/utility disk. Do I need the setup disc and HDLoader? Or will just one or the other let me access the HD? I dont have a modchip and ive already slapped a bunch of games on the HD. Or do you know where I can find a good tutorial/guide?

a compatible hard drive, the network adapter, and HD Advaced V3.0 should be all you need. The network setup disc is used for setting up the console for online play.

Well thankfully Im not trying to play online. But my question was kinda pointed towards the idea that the PS2 has to be able to see the network adapter to see the HD? I guess kinda like a HUB type device.(e.g. my scanner/copier has a USB port on the front but my PC wont see what I plug into it unless I have the driver for the scanner/copier)Who knows, I have a tendency to think things too deep!

You need the network adapter to download your legal copies of PS2 on the hard drive not only for oneline games. The link below will explain everything and you can download there all the programs that you need and a step by step guide. Definitely this would help you!

I dont need it to put the games on the HD; I put the HD in my PC and put the images on it that way.

Did it work when you played the games on PS2? You still need the HDXtreme software and the client software. Go to that link below and download it.

the easiest way for you to do what you are asking, and get the best compatibility, is to build the memory card exploit, and put the HDL8B_MC.ELF in the exploit.
After that, put your hard drive and network adapter in the ps2, boot the exploit, and launch the hdloader elf, and then, as long as you formatted the hard drive and loaded the games right, it will be recognized, and you can start playing.

ericvct, I'm using the HDXtreme and everything works great etc. But I would like to try your suggestion. How can I install the exploit in memory card? Is it in USB drive or in memory card? Tell us step by step so we can back up our legal copies.

Google can find you the elf file. just put in "HDL8B_MC.ELF"
All the other info needed to do this ( there are many different ways, depending on what tools you have at hand) can be found by doing a search in these forums for "independence exploit". When you build your own exploit, just make sure you put the HDL8B_MC.ELF in too.

So I would have to make my own exploit? I was thinking there was somewhere I could just d/l what I need, slap it on a thumb drive, & put it in the PS2.
