My Swap Magic 3.6 DVD version stopped working all of a sudden!!
The CD Version works absolutely fine.
The DVD version just keeps getting read, but then redirects my to the ps2 browser.
You know, the memory cards, the currently inserted disc...
And every single time it does that!
As stated, the CD version of swap magic works fine.
*My idea was...*
1) Rip the DVD Swap Magic onto my computer.
2) Burn the ISO of Swap Magic 3.6 DVD onto a CD disc.
3) Insert the CD Swap Magic disc into the ps2.
4) Switch that with the burned copy of Swap Magci 3.6 DVD.
5) Then Swap the burned DVD swap magic with the burned game.
Do you guys have any solutions?

Nevermind. Apparently I can't put the Swap Magic 3.6 files onto my computer. So burning the DVD Swap Magic is out.
How do I make it work again?

My computer won't even read my DVD version!
Of course it reads the CD version....
And I tried both of them on my ps2 emulator, and can you guess which one worked?
The CD version!! Correct!!
Now I am pissed (not at you guys, at the swap magic).
Can you guys help me out?

Great you guys are some help. You know, I fixed it, ME. With no help from YOU. I don't know why I come here for help if no one is willing to. This website sucks, and so do the members. Thanks, thanks a lot for making me waste my time writing this post, and creating an account here. Screw you all.

Hold on a second there. Maybe you are way too impatient. I tend to troll in the backup ps2 section a lot, so sorry if I didn't see this thread until now.
I am interested how you fixed your error though, because swap magic dvd cannot be read in the computer, and the cd I don't think also? Well, I never tried.

Hello, just for good measure I am letting everyone know who is currently using swap magic cd's/dvd's, DO NOT USE THE SLIDE TOOL!!!!!.I am saying this because after the slide card is used 5-10 times the white tit you are sliding breaks off and forces the disc tray never to eject.
this is a tutorial on how to use swap magic the right way.
First: open the black casing on the ps2. You will see a disc trey on the right.
Second: Insert your swap magic disc as if you were inserting a normal game...
Third: Wait for swap magic to load...
Fourth: Once loaded and with the ps2 case of....look at the disc tray to the right (has a yellow sticker on it) now just lift the lid of the disc tray
Fifth: You will see your swap magic disc in the tray not spinning (this is good)
sixth: take your swap magic disc out and insert your properly burn ps2 backup game.
seventh: put the lid to the disc tray back on
final: click load program on the swap magic screen
it sounds long and hard but after a couple of times you will get the hang of things....
also try to avoid touching any parts inside the ps2 aside from the disc tray because there is a small risk of shock...
I made this own tutorial for any questions post a new reply.

How long have you had the SM 3.6 DVD? These discs can be faulty. Make sure your disc is clean, a smudge on it can make all the difference in the world. Also make sure the disc is completely pushed down on the spindle.
If none of that works and its fairly new contact your retailer.

I can't see how both of my discs are faulty. They open up fine on any other dvd player (brings up the root directory) but just not the ps2. Very frustrating especially since Modmonster.com won't return my emails.

Its better to try them on another PS2, than just a DVD player. Do all your other PS2 discs play fine. What version PS2 are you using? Maybe they are not answering your email, because they no longer have Swap Magic since all the raids. Is it a USA company? But keep trying anyway.

This happened to me just now. Took it into the bathroom with a towel (soft towel) and ran water over the back of the disc for 10 seconds and then dried it completely with the towel and stuck it back into the PS2 and it works fine now.

Maybe I'll try the 'water' trick. My ps2 is version 4 w/ fliptop, all my ps2 games work fine, just the swap magic discs. Problem is I moved overseas and everyone here has PAL playstations, hence the reason I need swap magic to play the imported games. I tried to find a company local that sells Swap Magic since it's legal to Mod here, but haven't had much luck with finding a NTSC version. Really sucks since I got the flip top working with no probs.

Are you saying then that you have SM 3.6 PAL and your PS2 is NTSC. I can't remember if I was asked what version PS2 I had, and if there is a difference then.

My playstation is NTSC (bought in the U.S), my swapmagic discs are NTSC, but since I'm living in Australia at current I can't play any of the games unless I get them overseas, or unless I get the swapmagic to work.

Hello all, I am having the same problem, but have tried some things.
Symptoms: Swap magic 3.3 suddenly ceased to load on the dvd version, but just went to ps2 browser. CD version worked fine. DVD version did not work after cleaning.
Attempted solution: Purchased NEW Swap Magic 3.6. DVD version of this still does not load and goes to the browser, same as my old disk. CD version of this does load, just like the old disk.
My only theory at this point is degradation of the PS2 lens. Since swap magic used to work, but now doesn't, the problem now seems to be with the playstation itself. Any thoughts? Will cleaning the lens help?

Hey, after much frustration, and some logical thinking based on my last post,
I cleaned the playstation lens with a clean dry terry cloth and thoroughly de-dusted it. If cleaning your Swap Magic DVD does not work, try cleaning your ps2 thoroughly, use a computer de-duster spray if necessary. I didn't need to, but if yours is really dusty this might help.
At any rate, my DVD version works again . . . so it seems both a clean lens and a clean disk are a must, and just the DVD version not working seems to be the key symptom of this problem. :)
Best of luck to you all!

Alright, so I just got Swap Magic 3.8 the other day. My CD disc works just fine and can load my backup copy of DDR Max was well, but when I get to my DVD disc everything goes wrong. For one thing, the PS2 won't load it like my CD disc, as in it doesn't go to the screen to boot the backup PS2 games. At this point I will describe, in order, what I have done in attempt to get my DVD disc to work:
-Wash the disc with a damp cloth of water, going from the center of the disc to the outer edges in straight lines and no circles.
-I dried it in the same fashion.
-It didn't work, I went to the browser, and it said it couldn't read the disc.
-I then went back to the damp cloth and look for lint and what not and wiped those off.
-Dried the disc in the same fashion.
-It didn't work, I went to the browser, and it said it couldn't read the disc.
-Then I put disc into my laptop. Noise city. I take out the disc and realize that I haven't been pushing the disc in all the way. I secured it into my laptop drive and it actually read it! I thought I had a chance!
-I put the disc back into the PS2 Slim and MADE SURE that all three clamps were holding the disc. Then it took me to this very annoying message: "Please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc." This then means that I actually got the PS2 to read the game, but it couldn't be loaded.
-I got desperate at this point. I drenched the data side with water and then dried it off with a cloth. Then it said the disc couldn't be read. At this point I noticed a few droplets of water INSIDE the disc circle, like, 1 mm inside the very center of the disc. At this point I came to the conclusion that there was an opening inside the disc, almost as if it consisted of two layers.
-I got even more desperate. I cut out a piece of typing paper and rubbed the water out of the inside of the disc with the piece of paper, along with noticing a weird tiny piece of plastic that was already inside of the disc. I couldn't get that piece out.
-I put the disc in. Secured it. It read it, but IMMEDIATELY took me to the browser (beforehand I'd have to do it manually). It was reading the disc, then it took me back to: "Please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc."
I feel as if I have no other options than:
-Destroying the disc.
-Destroying the PS2.
-Or contacting the Hong Kong store I got it from for a new one.
I don't want to do any of those options so I come here for help. If you ask me any questions, I am to assume that you have read ALL of the steps I took and didn't skim them over, because they're very precise and I'm crying my heart out here. I have a younger sister and a younger cousin who are DYING to play Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix+ (the game is actually right next to me as I speak) so I would appreciate being able to make them happy by making this disc work . . . that's all I ask . . .
Please, help me and my younger siblings . . .

Nario-
The varied responses to your Swap Magic disk tells me you have 1 of 2 problems:
1. A defective or damaged Swap Magic disk (possible but not likely).
Solution: Get a new Swap Magic disk.
2. A damaged or dirtied PS2 lens (which explains why it loads differently each time but still fails).
Solution: Clean the lens.
See my post above. I had a similar problem, and first tried to replace the disk. No dice. Even though my old Swap Magic disc was scratched as if it had been through a tornado, it still works after cleaning my PS2s lens(the lens reads your disc inside the PS2). The PS2 is very picky about what disks it picks up as valid, so if anything gets in the way it will reject the disk.
Another note - If the problem is the lens, you may also have trouble loading other original PS2 games, especially older ones. My system was having loading problems on other games that cleared up after cleaning the lens.
Remember:
I don't recommend touching the lens on your Playstation except as a last resort. If you can get a can of compressed air from the store and dust out your system, this is the safest bet. Beyond that, I used only a CLEAN, DRY, cotton, LINT-FREE cloth to GENTLY wipe the lens clean.
Also, if you load the screen and it won't load the game the problem is most likely with how you burned the specific game (although a dirty lens can also cause this problem). There are other forums that address that issue.

Hmm, seeing as how I have no problems with my other regular PS2 games it takes the problem away from the lens and points the spotlight on the Swap Magic DVD disc. And since I can't even load the hardware to begin with that means that I couldn't have been able to test what burned games work or not. This means the exclusive problem is in the disc and your solution is to get a new disc. With that said, I'll be contacting the store I got it from and demand a replacement. Thanks for your help, dipwad, I'm sure my younger siblings can wait a little longer.

No problem, Nario. I hope the disk solution works for you. :) As I said in the PM, I was just sharing what worked for me; I wouldn't clean the lens except as a last resort. I'd love to hear what solution finally works for you.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

kk hey people^^ i'm getting rather desperate, cant seem to find anybody with the same problems as me and i would REALLY like to play on my ps2
so, i used to have a modchip but my ps2 broke, at christmas i got a new one, slimline version but instead of a modchip i'm (attempting) to use swap magic 3.6.
I've installed all the correct bits and pieces etc. SO i put in the discs and two options appear: "LOAD PROGRAM" and "VIDEO MODE". I think its at this point that i'm doing things wrong. I open up the fliptop lid and the screen changes and says "INSERT BIGGER TOC" so i put in my copy and nothing happens. It returns to the previous "LOAD PROGRAM" etc screen, i select load program and....TADAAA! nothing happens >< big let down everybodys peeved lol.
so can anyone please help me out? i REALLY want to play on it before my hols are over and seeing as everything i've come across has been about the swap no longer working, no-one else seems to have a non-starter swap magic ><....so pleaaaase help me^^
